Star-devouring black hole probably responsible for a weird long GRB
Arecent study by Chinese astronomers suggests that the weird behavior of a gamma-ray burst (GRB) detected in 2006 might have been caused by an intermediate mass black hole (IMBH) gulping a star,rather than a massive star collapsing to form a black hole.This provides an alternative model to explain the origin of some long GRBs and has fueled the flaming controversy over the source of such intense electromagnetic radiations from extremely distant universe,which has long been the biggest mystery in high-energy astronomy.
